The remote is on the other end of the sofa and you can’t reach it. No worries, just say, “Ok Google, increase the volume on SHIELD,” and you’re set. Google Home devices can now control your SHIELD TV from anywhere in your home as long as they’re on the same network.
From there, streaming is as easy as a few clicks. Unfortunately, there seems to be not much of a point for NVIDIA to continue operating GameStream. In an official statement from NVIDIA, the company says that GameStream will be pulled offline in February of 2023 as part of an update to the NVIDIA Games app.

Home Assistant knows how to convert some of these names for popular apps, but if you need to get it to work with an unsupported app there are a couple of steps. Use the Home app to control on/off, volume, playback, inputs, and more for your connected streaming and media devices. I can review all the Google Assistant commands given on the devices, and see a list of them in the iOS app. But I can't seem to add them to a room, or add them as an actual device you can target.
How do you add the Nvidia Shield TV to Google Home?
Google Home already worked with SHIELD, providing basic controls. The app and controls are fantastic, but adding a new device is clunky, not intuitive and most of the time doesn't work. If you move your Google device to a new room or it gets unplugged by accident it's a pain to get it to work again. Adding smart plugs or bulbs is a challenge when it doesn't find it.
You can see in the screenshot below that “wake_lock_size” is set to 5 while I was playing video. I also found that the “wake_lock_size” is also 3 or 6 when playing video in TinyCam. As an NVIDIA SHIELD TV owner, one of the frustrating things about the device is how it doesn't work great with Google Home/Google Assistant. Finally, that is changing along with some other welcomed features.

You can also get a notification if something important happens while you’re away. It will show up at the bottom because it's on the same wifi but you still have to add it to a home and room. I don't think Google Home has a "default" home for a Google account anyways. You don't even have to add it, if you log in with the same Google account, it will be added on Home automatically.
You can continue the process for every app that you have that Home Assistant doesn’t automatically recognize. That way, you can make automations that are based on the state of the media source. You can configure Home Assistant to know what state these values map to. In the below configuration I’m mapping the values 3, 5, 6 for wake_lock_size to be in the “playing” state.

Looking back at the Andorid TV integration docs in Home Assistant, essentially all you need is the IP address and a name for the media player. Just like before, Google Assistant is also on the SHIELD TV. So you can talk directly to the SHIELD to do these things as well. We're really glad to see NVIDIA and Google finally iron out these issues that have been annoying for a while.
It's able to see the device on the network, but can't get past that point. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the app, with Android, or with the Shield itself, but regardless the app is useless to me at the moment. If you are eager to try out the features, a restart of your SHIELD TV will deliver the new features within a day. This app is hit or miss on whether it will work properly. When it doesn't, it absolutely doesn't and most likely will continue to not work for several days in a row. Makes no sense how it can operate flawlessly for daya on end.
Search results from other apps are displayed in this menu. With Google Assistant on SHIELD you can find Movies and TV Shows, launch apps and games, control your smart home, and even order pizza. It's everything you love about Google Home, but enhanced for your living room.
Hold your SHIELD Remote in front of you and say your question. Your assistant results appear as soon as you finish speaking. I've tried the suggestions on this thread and nothing has worked.
And while they are listed, they don't behave like a device. I can't use Google Assistant on another registered device to tell it to play Spotify in the bedroom, for example. Tap on the device and make sure “Not Available” is displayed.
I'm trying to add my Nvidia Shield's to Google Home, but not having any luck. Google Assistant isn't an app any more where you can clear the data. I did clear the data from Google and it seemed to reset the Google Assistant . It’s the end of an era for SHIELD owners, as NVIDIA has announced it’ll be shutting down the GameStream feature. Those unfamiliar with the SHIELD or GameStream, the feature is as it sounds. It allows owners of NVIDIA’s SHIELD TV box to stream games from their PC.
